A high-end agri-resort born from the restoration of an ancient Tuscan villa and farm

Nestled in the heart of Tuscany, near the birthplace of Leonardo da Vinci, Villa Petriolo in Cerreto Guidi stands as a beacon of sustainable luxury and exemplary hospitality. Recognised as the world’s first sustainable agriturismo by the prestigious Global Sustainable Tourism Council, this high-end agri-resort is a model for eco-conscious travel, blending historical preservation with modern environmental technologies.

The centrepiece of Villa Petriolo is a meticulously restored 16th-century villa-farmstead, once home to the noble Albini and Alessandri families. The restoration honours its Renaissance heritage, preserving frescoes, antique terracotta floors, and architectural elements that reflect the “Genius loci” of the era, while incorporating contemporary luxury. Its 35 guest accommodations, powered by renewable energy, include elegant suites and secluded countryside residences set among 170 hectares of biodiverse landscapes featuring vineyards, olive groves, and organic farmlands.

Villa Petriolo’s sustainability ethos extends to every aspect of its operations. The estate produces its own organic ingredients, from ancient grains and extra virgin olive oil to honey and pasture-raised livestock. These are central to the offerings at its Michelin Green Star-awarded fine dining restaurant, PS, and its gourmet osteria, Golpaja. Additionally, the farm crafts wines, craft beers, and artisanal liquors, available at La Bottega, a hybrid bistro and organic shop.

Guests can unwind at the Mater holistic wellness centre, which uses natural and locally sourced products, such as donkey milk and Mediterranean herbs, for exclusive treatments. Its amenities include an eco-friendly infinity pool and panoramic saunas designed to immerse visitors in the stunning Tuscan countryside. Villa Petriolo also prioritises biodiversity, planting native flora to sustain local wildlife, including over a million bees vital to pollination efforts.

Furthering its commitment to community, Villa Petriolo employs local staff, fosters youth employment, and aligns with the United Nations’ sustainability goals, as demonstrated by hosting the launch of the UN’s first environmental hub for fashion, lifestyle, and tourism.

Villa Petriolo exemplifies how luxury can coexist with environmental stewardship and cultural preservation, offering an unparalleled travel experience that harmonises the best of history, innovation, and sustainability.
