Insider's Guide

Lying on the Adige, with the bends of the river cuddling it, Verona is also called Little Rome, due to its wealth of monuments and architecture, and since 2000 the historic centre has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site. But alongside Verona’s iconic monuments, such as the Arena, or its beautiful squares, it is known the world over as the capital of love, especially troubled love. Here, in fact, was set Shakespeare’s tragedy Romeo and Juliet, the two lovers who are the children of Verona’s two main families, the Montagues and the Capulets, fighting each other. But alongside the places that recall the events of the couple that became myths, there are many itineraries for discovering the city and its beauties, which bear witness to a history with a rich past that has left its mark. Here are some of the gems for experiencing the city in the most intense, fascinating and authentic way.
