Relaxation and rejuvenation are the watchwords in South Tyrol. There isn’t a place, from smaller b&bs to five-star hotels, that doesn’t offer a wellness area or a relaxation corner. Always innovative and stylish. Always in harmony with nature because wellness begins right here. There are unusual saunas, pools that touch the sky, and charming relaxation spots nestled in the woods or by a little lake.
Rotating, Suspended, Floating
The latest innovation that combines modernity and design is called Elements: it’s the new rotating and suspended sauna at the Dolomiti Wellness Hotel Fanes in San Cassiano, Alta Badia. Located at a height of nine meters, it has a cylindrical base and rotates 360 degrees, offering panoramic views of the entire landscape. Also of the latest generation is the floating steel platform at the Alpine Panorama Hotel Hubertus in Valdaora: this exclusive spot is reached from the “Heaven&Hell” relaxation area, which, with its three whirlpools and two saunas, already provides a spectacular view of the peaks.
Swimming Between Earth and Sky
Twenty-five rooms with an authentic, family-like atmosphere and a small but grand luxury: the Gloriette Guesthouse is located on the Renon Plateau, suspended between city and mountain. On the roof of the building is a panoramic pool with a lovely relaxation area that allows you to be face to face with the surrounding peaks.
In the sky spa of the Excelsior Dolomites Life Resort in San Vigilio di Marebbe, you can swim between earth and sky in a true paradise among the clouds, where the mountains of San Vigilio are reflected in the water. The Naturhotel Leitlhof in San Candido also has a beautiful rooftop pool: its waters mirror Mount Baranci, and it’s heated in winter, so you can swim even when the snowflakes fall.
You’ll touch the sky in the infinity panoramic pool on the roof of the Hotel Winkler in Plan de Corones: an infinity pool purified with ozone, where the water blends with the blue of the sky. You swim in a dreamlike dimension with the Val Pusteria at your feet.
Immersed in the Woods, Amidst a Lake
Warmth, tranquility, nature, and silence reign in the Onsen Pool of Miramonti, a hotel immersed in the woods above Merano, in Avelengo. You float in water that reaches 40 degrees after the cleansing ritual and subsequent rest on solar platforms nestled among the rocks. Among the trees, somewhat hidden like a treasure to be discovered, there’s also the “Sauna in the Woods,” reached by thirty-six steps.
On the lake, with a view of part of the Sassolungo peaks, you’ll find the saunas of the Adler Spa Resort Dolomiti in Ortisei. Since last year, a large platform has been created in the middle of a small lake: an island of silence that houses saunas with large windows. It makes you feel like an integral part of the garden and offers a glimpse of the Sassolungo peaks in the distance.
Without Walls, Without Boundaries
The glass windows dissolve the boundary between indoors and outdoors. Like at the Vigilius Mountain Resort, reachable by cable car from the town of Lana at 1500 meters above Merano. In its spa, the expansive panoramic window projects the larches and the walls of the Dolomites into the pool, making it seem to extend to the ends of the earth.
The Gerstl Alpine Retreat in Slingia has a beautiful panoramic sauna and a pine relaxation room with windows offering views of the Val Venosta. And if you want to indulge in a little extra luxury, you can choose one of the suites at the Bad Moos Aqua Spa Resort in Sesto Pusteria: one of them features an oval tub positioned right in front of the balcony window with a view of the Dolomites.
Yes to glass windows, no to glass windows at the Adler Lodge Ritten in Soprabolzano, on the Renon Plateau. It has an outdoor and an indoor infinity pool, both with mountain views: from the Odle Group to the Sella Group, from Sassolungo and Sassopiatto to Sciliar, passing through Catinaccio to the Latemar Dolomite massif group.
