Celebrating International Women's Day

March 8th is Celebrated with Slalom Races, Traditional Dress, and a Typical Crafts Exhibition

For one day, forget technical ski suits and padded windbreakers. Yes, instead, to traditional attire for gliding down the slopes.

On March 8, 2025, for International Women’s Day, you can ski in Val Gardena wearing a Dirndl adorned with hearts and edelweiss. This is the original (quite literally) dress code for participating in the Dolomites Dirndl Ski Day, an event now in its third edition that consists of a parallel slalom race exclusively for women, which will take place on the Seceda slopes in Val Gardena, in the spectacular natural amphitheater of the Unesco World Heritage Dolomites.

An event designed to combine sport, fun, and tradition in a single female-focused gathering, reserved exclusively for adult female skiers. Those wishing to register can do so with the Ortisei Tourist Association. The meeting is set for 10 in the morning on March 8, 2025, at Baita Daniel. Participants can register in two-person teams (friends, sisters, mothers and daughters) at a cost of 60 euros per couple, including a race package for each participant. The competition will begin at 11:15, and part of the registration proceeds will be donated to charity. The maximum number of participants is limited to 50 teams.

A DJ set will ensure the right atmosphere, and after the race, the day will continue with music and merriment. On the same occasion, visitors can also visit the art and crafts exhibition Mëter Mans – Gardena Artisan Women Tell Their Story, set up in the Luis Trenker Cultural Center hall in Ortisei, featuring works by 25 Val Gardena artisans who blend tradition and innovation. Just like in the original vintage-flavoured ski race.
