Twenty years have passed since the fashion house collaborated with the Japanese artist, and to celebrate this moment they have created a new, high-end collection with over two hundred items. This collection not only offers fashionable creations but also immersive experiences to enter their imaginative and colourful world.
A Playful Reinterpretation in the 2000’s
Let’s take a quick look back at the early 2000’s before we dive into the details of this new legendary collaboration. It’s 2002, and Marc Jacobs is the creative director of Louis Vuitton. With the house’s fate in Jacobs’ hands, he infuses a radical and playful touch into the iconic brand by partnering with one of the most celebrated contemporary artists: Takashi Murakami. Vuitton’s spirit is elevated, marking the embrace of the kawaii aesthetic. Their first collection debuts on the Spring/Summer runway in 2003, transforming Louis Vuitton’s signature monogram with more vivid colours and flamboyant details – the Monogram Multicolore collection is born.
Two Decades Later…
A new year, a new collaboration. Again, the fashion house and Japanese artist Murakami have designed a unique collection, featuring bright colours, enlivened heritage emblems and a playful flair across the range of sunglasses, jewellery and statement leather goods, highlighting the Speedy and Pochette.

a Tram in the Centre of Milan
To enrich the collection, two historic 1920s trams have been reimagined as gateways to the vibrant, dreamlike world of Louis Vuitton x Murakami. Departing from 2 Piazza Castello from January 8 to 28, these trams invite fashion and art lovers to immerse themselves on a one-of-a-kind journey.
The first tram dazzles with a multi-coloured Louis Vuitton motif on a pristine white exterior, while its interior is enveloped in Murakami’s signature blue fabric. The tram recalls the charm of an intimate cinema including large screens displaying exclusive videos by Murakami himself.
Travelling through Milan’s heart, the route concludes at Piazza Fontana, where a second tram awaits. This one is embellished with Murakami’s smiling daisies and features a candy-pink literary café, where passengers can enjoy traditional raspberry bubble tea, panda-shaped cookies, and a curated selection of art books, celebrating the creative collection in every detail.
How to book your ride
A ride in one or both trams can be booked by contacting the Louis Vuitton customer service or reserving a slot via the brand’s official website. To complete the experience, visitors can head to the boutique in Galleria Corso Vittorio Emanuele to explore the entire collection in an ultra-pop space.
