Born in Milan in 1989, Carolina Fumagalli began her role at the Due Lune Resort & Golf in Puntaldia in September 2021, returning to a place deeply woven into her family history. She later moved to Milan and only recently, after becoming the mother of two daughters, she chose to resume her professional path by dedicating herself to the family hotel in Sardinia — a project particularly close to her heart, tied not only to the beauty of the landscape but also to cherished memories of time spent in Puntaldia with her grandparents. Here, she founded Caraluna, her concept store within the Due Lune resort which has recently found itself in with an itinerant format, opening pop-ups in Milan and Corvara. Why Corvara? Carolina has been visiting this ski destination since a young age with her family, spending her winters on the slopes.
How would you describe Italy today in very few words?
Italy for me is like a colourful painting with a thousand nuances. And the closer you get the more shades you recognize and appreciate. Apart from being home, to me it is one of the most beautiful countries in the world.
Why Corvara?
Corvara is a place of the heart, just like Due Lune is. My grandparents spent their honeymoon here and my nonno was also an Alpino here during his youth. To me these are the most beautiful mountains in the world, you can ski or simply enjoy a cup of cioccolata calda, the view, the air, the sky, everything is special here.
A stolen secret?
In Colfosco there is a tiny place that sells souvenirs, they have a huge amount of objects, if you search closely and are able to recognise special things, you will find incredible little treasures . I buy there all the surprises for the arrival of the “Befana” for my little girls and they are always amazed by my findings even if they are not toys.
An unmissable day trip?
A trip to Jimmy Hutte. The view is the best of the valley and the food is just amazing. Also the design of the place is one of a kind.
The best time of day?
After ski I love to have a hot chocolate at La Perla with my two daughters, next to the fireplace, they have the best selction of pastries and cookies freshly baked. The quality of the chocolate is very rich and it warms you up from the cold outside.
An inspiring walk?
The walk from Corvara to La Villa in the woods. There is a narrow path that runs along the river that alternates sun, shade and incredible views of the mountains.
A relaxing moment?
The best relax in the mountains is at the SPA, the heat of the sauna gets you very relaxed. I have one home but when I also need to get energized, I’ll have a massage with Alpine Herbs oil at the SPA of La Perla. Another beloved place is the Ladinia restaurant, all in wood in the typical style. I always have luch there when I arrive so I feel I’m in Corvara and ready to enjoy all the beauty of this place.
A special experience?
A horse riding experience at Sitting Bull Ranch. During winter time they bring you into the woods surrounded by snow and silence under the Gardenaccia. They have good horses, you can simply walk or canter in the middle of nature.
The essence of Corvara?
Corvara is an understated luxury, a quiet and powerful one. Not so far from the most renowned Cortina it truly preserves the tradition of the villages, from music to architecture. It is truly authentic and values immensely the respect of the territory and nature. This lifestyle is very much similar to Puntaldia, in Sardinia, where I summer.
That memorable evening?
Aperitivo at La Perla bar enjoying a Champagne Cocktail, maybe sitting at the counter looking at what the Barmans do, it’s hypnotic. And then the tasting menu at La Stua de Michil, best food experience in the valley. I recommend the room with the sliding window, it opens up on their incredible kitchen. Best finish of the night it’s a tour of their incredible cantina surrounded by classical music and unexpected effects and stories. I don’t want to spoil more.
An unforgettable dish and where?
At the Bistrot of La Perla Hotel don’t miss the Fassona Steak Tartare and the “Salmerino”, The Artic Char with watercress and citrus fruits.
The drink?
After ski a beer at L’Murin is a must – a very fun place with music with a crowd of every age.
The hotel of the heart and why – what do you love the most about it?
The hotel La Perla , as you might have understood is a place that feels like home to me. The staff is truly nice and treat you like at home. The concept of their hospitality is to the treat the host in an impeccable yet effortless way , which is exactly the concept we have at our family hotel in Sardinia, the Due Lune Puntaldia Resort & Golf. We want to create a relationship with our hosts that is longlasting and absolutely authentic and La Perla is a master in that.
What 3 things are a must-pack?
1. The Sunscreen cream of La farmacia di Corvara
2. Gloves and hats
3. Hiking boots
The Souvenir?
We just opened a Caraluna pop up at La Perla, a place that carries a selection of craftmanships and conscious items from clothing to home accessories and vintage findings.
1. One of the best and most conscious souvenirs you can find is a wool doll made by a local artisan, Evi Villscheider, made of pure merino wool from local sheeps.
2. Hair accessories with Edelweiss embroidery
3. Cachemire pulls embroidered by Mrs. Rita, a local artisan, with typical flowery patterns.
