Piedmont from a local's perspective

Fulvio Marino was born in Cuneo in 1985 into a family of millers with generations of history for Mulino Marino. Thanks to his grandfather Felice and his father Ferdinando, Fulvio began taking his first steps in the milling world at a very young age. Today, Fulvio not only continues to produce high quality flours but also has written two inspiring books, appears on national television with his two series ‘Il Forno delle Meraviglie’ and ‘Nel Forno di Casa Tua’ and has recently opened his bakery FuocoFarina in Alba.

How would you describe Italy today in very few words?
Beautiful, biodiverse, traditional, and elegant.

Why Alba?
Because it is the perfect blend of a small town and a city. It’s a provincial town with an international feel thanks to its truffles and gastronomy. A beautiful city, rich in history and culinary tradition.

A stolen secret?
Climbing the bell tower of Alba’s cathedral offers an incredible and intimate view. It’s one of the most beautiful experiences you could do in this region.

An unmissable day trip?
A journey to Alta Langa. Visit the fields of Enkir and medicinal herbs around Sale San Giovanni and Murazzano in late June. Pure poetry.

The best time of day?
An aperitivo at Caffè della Torre followed by dinner at Ristorante La Libera.

A relaxing moment?
A walk towards Altavilla at sunset to enjoy breathtaking views of Alba from above.

A special experience?
A visit to Cossano Belbo at Mulino Marino, my family’s mill, to witness firsthand how quality organic flours are made.

The essence of Alba?
The osterias, the wine, and the truffle.

That memorable evening?
Dinner at La Ciau del Tornavento in Treiso.

The most beautiful landscape?
From the medieval tower in Barbaresco, rising 13 meters via a panoramic elevator.

An unforgettable dish ?
Lidia’s agnolotti at Guido Restaurant in Fontanafredda, eaten traditionally in a napkin (Serralunga d’Alba).

The drink (and where)?
At Tumbo in Alba, for fantastic cocktails and vegan food.

The hotel of the heart?
Casa Pavesi in Serralunga d’Alba.

What to pack for the weekend?
A nice outfit for a romantic dinner and a comfortable set of clothes for trekking through the hills.

The souvenir?
A bottle of Piedmontese wine from the Fracchia e Berchialla wine shop.
