Studio Giuliano Andrea Dell’Uva signs the interiors

This April, Sorrento welcomes a fresh address set to recalibrate the town’s hospitality scene. The newly reimagined Grand Hotel Flora reopens as a four-star design hotel, following a full renovation by architect Giuliano Andrea Dell’Uva.

First opened in the 1960s and long run by the Mascolo family, the hotel has been part of Sorrento’s social fabric for decades. Now, under the operational guidance of the third generation, it enters a new chapter — one that refreshes its identity while keeping its emotional ties intact. Dell’Uva’s restoration moves deftly between past and present. The lobby has been brought back to the spirit of its early years, conceived as a grand Sorrentine home where an old-school piano sits alongside vintage pieces by Gianfranco Frattini while a white ceramic fireplace anchors the room. Hand-glazed terracotta floors in varying shades of sea-blue nod to the Gulf beyond, while the original late-Sixties staircase now opens onto a garden dotted with palms and citrus trees. Throughout, local artisans have been central to the project, from hand-painted floors to mosaic panels and bespoke woodwork, creating a layered narrative of material, craft and place.

The 121 rooms, including 14 sea-view suites with generous solarium terraces, blend clean-lined elegance with the warmth of Vietri ceramics, a subtle but unmistakable reference to Campania’s decorative heritage.

On the ground floor, Bistrot Silva overlooks the large pool, offering a relaxed yet polished setting for lunch or dinner. The menu celebrates regional flavours with a focus on quality and freshness. But it is the rooftop that anchors the hotel’s new identity. With sweeping views over the Gulf of Naples, the panoramic terrace is designed as an instant social hub for guests and locals alike. Here, the sinuously restored original Sixties pool, inspired by the architectural language of Gio Ponti, who realised one of his most important projects just metres away, becomes the centrepiece. Alongside it, pizza and mixology bar Oliva sets the tone for sunset aperitivi and long, amber-hued evenings. (The rooftop restaurant is slated to open in June 2026.)
