A design-led country retreat to enjoy with family or a circle of close friends

In Contrada Palazzone, the winemaking district of San Casciano dei Bagni, the landscape unfolds in broad, quiet horizons. Here, where the borders of Tuscany, Umbria and Lazio gently converge, vineyards ripple across the hills and silence feels almost tangible.

The surrounding vineyards

Surrounded by a fragrant Mediterranean garden planted with aromatic herbs, Casale Godidluva is as much a destination for lovers of art as it is for those drawn to fine wine and the slow rhythms of the Tuscan countryside.

Designed by architect Marco Ricci and owned by Giovanni Bulgari, the stone farmhouse respects the vernacular architecture of the region while embracing a distinctly contemporary sensibility. Built of local stone and reclaimed terracotta tiles, it opens onto a light-filled living space where floor-to-ceiling windows dissolve the boundary between indoors and out. The kitchen forms part of the open-plan living area, anchored by a fireplace that turns the room into the natural gathering place of the house—somewhere to cook, linger over meals and share long conversations.

Throughout the interiors, custom-made furnishings and restrained contemporary design sit alongside art, books and personal mementoes collected over decades. There are paintings by contemporary artists, carefully chosen objects, and the traces of a life shaped by travel, gastronomy and a passion for wine. It is a house designed less to impress than to be lived in.

With just five individually designed bedrooms, Casale Godidluva feels like a private home. There is a small wellness area with a gym, a private spa and a terrace overlooking the surrounding countryside. Exposed timber beams and wooden ceilings preserve the farmhouse’s original character, while the interiors, conceived by architect and interior designer Juliette Rubel in close collaboration with Giovanni Bulgari, balance craftsmanship with quiet sophistication.

Every room reflects the owner’s personal vision. Bulgari personally selected works from his own collection, combining contemporary art with antiques, design pieces and objects gathered on his travels. Each space has its own distinct personality, making the house feel as much like a private gallery as a countryside retreat.

Here, past and present, nature and comfort exist in quiet dialogue. Beyond the windows, vineyards planted with indigenous grape varieties continue to shape the character of this corner of Tuscany, reminding guests that the landscape itself is the region’s greatest work of art.
