The undiscovered territory in Trentino Alto Adige

Vipiteno, in Trentino Alto Adige, is a charming village steeped in history. Recognized as one of the “Most Beautiful Villages in Italy,” it lies just 15 km from the Brenner Pass and holds the distinction of being the northernmost town in Italy. Founded during the Roman era as a resting station for travelers heading to Alpine regions, Vipiteno reached its peak of prosperity in the 15th and 16th centuries, thanks to the wealth generated by the silver mines in the surrounding valleys.

What to See

Vipiteno

The Civic Tower (Torre delle Dodici)

Standing 46 meters tall, this iconic clock tower features an ancient sundial designed in the 15th century by Hans Feur. It divides the town into two sections: the Old Town (Altstadt) and the New Town (Neustadt).

The New Town

A stroll here reveals architectural gems such as the Citizens’ Judgement House (1450), the “Golden Eagle” Inn (1446), the Fugger Warehouse (1553), and the Town Hall (1473). The area is brimming with medieval squares, colorful facades, and oriel windows (Erker), preserving an enchanting old-world atmosphere.

Church of the Holy Spirit

A well-preserved Gothic structure from the 14th century, adorned with frescoes by Giovanni da Brunico, a master of the Val Pusteria school.

Parish Church of Santa Maria della Palude

The largest church in Tyrol, it boasts a magnificent altarpiece by Hans Multscher, regarded as a masterpiece of late Gothic realism.

Other Must-Sees

The Town Hall features the Tyrol region’s most beautiful Council Hall. Additionally, the Civic Museum and the Multscher Museum, housed in the historic “Deutschhaus,” showcase late Gothic art, including Hans Multscher’s painted panels and altar masterpieces.

Seasonal Activities

In summer, Vipiteno hosts a variety of cultural, sporting, and family-friendly events. For little ones, “Rossy Park,” located near the Monte Cavallo cable car station, features a petting zoo with llamas, alpacas, and ponies, as well as the chance to participate in “lama trekking.”
