Undiscovered Tuscany

Le Terre di Sacra, in Capalbio, Maremma, are a family-run project where organic farming meets effortless, genuine hospitality. Glamping tents, seaside cottages, a beach club, and a restaurant come together to create a slow-living experience in one of Tuscany’s last wild stretches of coast. Here’s everything to see, do, and savour in this untamed corner of southern Tuscany.

Glamping and Other Stays

On the vast estate of Le Terre di Sacra, you’ll find elegant villas and country cottages, all with private access to the sea, just a few minutes away by electric golf cart (included). For those seeking a more immersive experience, there’s also a glamping area: safari-style canvas lodges with two bedrooms, two bathrooms, air conditioning, and a fully equipped kitchen — where you’ll always find a chilled Sauvignon waiting in the fridge.

For something even simpler, the wooden cabins — like perfectly formed hotel rooms adapted to outdoor summer life — are tucked away among dunes, Mediterranean scrub, and flowering pergolas.

Monteverro

In 2003, Georg Weber, originally from southern Germany, bought this vineyard with his wife Julia, with guidance from legendary oenologist Michel Rolland. Today, Monteverro, just 5 km from the Tyrrhenian Sea, is considered one of Tuscany’s great Supertuscans. The approach is fully organic, with natural-yeast fermentation and gravity-fed winemaking.

La Dogana Beach Club, Capalbio

La Dogana, Capalbio

A short stroll from the glamping tents of Terre di Sacra, La Dogana beach club is run by the same team behind Rome’s Michelin-starred Enoteca La Torre. Chef Luca Morroto serves grilled octopus, fresh pasta with seafood, and a dreamy almond-and-pistachio semifreddo granita — all enjoyed with your toes in the sand.

L’Ultima Spiaggia

L’Ultima Spiaggia is a storied local institution. The crowd of Italian intellectuals who once gathered here may have drifted elsewhere, but the perfectly crisp fritto misto remains as delicious as ever.

Circolo La Macchia, Capalbio

Those planning a longer stay — and undeterred by the €10,000 membership fee — might consider joining Circolo La Macchia, an exclusive and discreet private club set in a 16th-century farmhouse by the sea, complete with its own beach club. Expect grapefruit gin and tonics, the freshest grilled fish, and contemporary art auctions curated by Giulia Puri Negri, the club’s president. Non-members can still enjoy the restaurant’s catering service, delivered directly to their cottage.
