2 December 2023
Written by Lucrezia Worthington

Christmas is about giving and most of the time we find ourselves flapping around looking for last-minute gifts, cracking under the pressure to find the most perfect present – when all that really matters (at least thats what they say) is the thought. It’s true, but how about a double whammy and coupling this thought with an awesome gift? We have selected thirteen items from artisan, hand-made pieces to our favourite wines, foods and gift boxes that would make a perfect wrap under the tree this year. Scroll through but be quick, some are limited editions!

1

la double j Murano glass carafe

La Double J has its fair share of gift ideas, with an extensive, sparkling collection that reflects the eccentric spirit of the brand itself. One piece that should never miss a dinner party is the ruby red glass carafe, handcrafted in Murano blown glass by the Venetian master glassmakers of Salviati. For the LDJ touch, a contrasting rim in a pop green just for that little something ‘extra’. From punch to red wine and non alcoholic beverages watch this little treasure light up the party this festive season. WEBSITE

Quilt Lisa Corti

This is the story of a contemporary, family run and female led brand founded by Lisa Corti over four centuries ago. Today, she is sided by her daughter Ida, who essentially grew up with the brand since she was young. Since the 80s Lisa has been producing home fabrics as well as cushions, bedspreads, curtains, tapestries and clothing – designed in Italy and handcrafted in India using ancient techniques. This season, a special festive pattern has been released. WEBSITE

A Design MOKA by Alessi

One of the objects that should never, ever, ever miss in an Italian household is a moka. More than tradition, this little piece of wonder is an institution, living in our homes for as far as we remember it. Alessi is synonymous with Italy, a brand producing exceptional quality items since 1921 with outstanding creativity and eye for design. Which is why, among our gift guide this year, we’re including La Cupola, designed by Aldo Rossi in 1988, the greatest Italian architect of the second half of the 20th century. This cute, dome- shaped coffee maker is an icon of contemporary industrial design as well as bubbling up some great brews. WEBSITE

Table set by loretta CAPONI

Loretta Caponi began embroidering at the age of nine and by fourteen, she delivered her first commissioned work and, in 1967, opened her first store in Florence. A truly inspiring history and example of pure Italian craftsmanship that stays true to her style and beliefs instead of following the lines of fashion. The brand has evolved in the hands of her daughter Lucia and her nephew Guido, whilst staying true to Loretta’s vision. A favourite, alongside the beautiful embroidered linens and nightwear, is the recent collection of tableware sets; inviting, delicate palette of autumnal blooms that spread across your table like a light petal. Each set comes with one tablecloth and six napkins. WEBSITE

pumpkin & choco panettone by nicola olivieri

When one thinks to name the best combination for dark chocolate, it seems easy – chocolate goes with anything right? But, there’s something harmonious about a well balanced sweet and savoury. In Nicola Olivieri’s Panettone (which was recently awarded the ‘top Italian food 2023’ by Gambero Rosso), the sweetness of the candied pumpkin is softened by the bitterness of the dark chocolate which in turn is lulled by the flavour of bourbon vanilla from Madagascar. An explosion of flavours, in a dough leavened for over 48 hours. Among the selection of Nicola’s fluffy bakes, a vegan panettone is also available. WEBSITE

Music and Wine with Donnafugata

Donnafugata is a magical wine label seamlessly intertwined with the essence of Southern Italy: named after the novel Il Gattopardo, collaborations with Dolce & Gabbana, five wineries spread across the region touching upon the teeny island of Pantelleria to cultivate one of the country’s best sweet wines with the little UNESCO protected alberello pantesco. Every Christmas, Donnafugata reveals exciting gift boxes that enclose some of their best labels in beautiful packaging – this year a very special collaboration for music fanatics in which a wooden box encloses a vinyl mixed by Donnafugata and three bottles of wine: red, white and sweet.
